Winged Things - November DT Project 2 for Country View Crafts

Hellooo,

I hope you’re all keeping well. I’ve been battling a cough and cold (tis the season!) but hopefully it’s about to ‘turn the corner’ now.

Here’s my second DT project for Country View Crafts for November, with the theme 'Winged Things'.
The prize for this month's challenge is an awesome set of 5 AALL and Create Washi Tapes.
You  must use products from brands that Country View Crafts stocks, and please mention them in your post.

You can enter 5 times each month with different projects and one winner will be selected randomly.
The challenge is open worldwide and you can join the group here:

I’m just loving Paperartsy Kate Crane’s new release and the Owl is so cute.
I’ve made just a simple, easy card this time for you, that you can ‘whip up’ when time is limited.

For the background I masked off a piece of white card and spritzed the contained area first with water, then with Squeezed Lemonade, Spun Sugar and Tumbled Glass Distress Spray Stains. I dried this and then laid Kate’s circle and cross stencil on top and sprayed with the same colours again. Once almost dry, I lifted the stencil off and then let it dry completely.
When I started removing the masking tape, I noticed some of the colour had bled a little under the tape. Oops! Oh well! I simply cut this out to  layer up later on.

Next, I stamped the Owl and 2 sets of the leaves with Jet Black Archival Ink, and then coloured these with Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Pencils. I then fussy cut these out.

After that it was just a matter of layering everything up onto my base card.

To finish I added the sentiment ‘take flight’ that was stamped onto book paper and layered onto black card.

To complete the look, I added some Glossy Accents to the eyes and some Stickles to select areas on the Owl and leaves. I also drew a’faux stitch line’ on the white border.

I hope you like my card and will be inspired to join in the Challenge on Country View Crafts and Challenges.

Thank you for stopping by.
Have a great day
Hugs

Winged Things - November DT Project 1 for Country View Crafts

Hello All,

I hope you're all keeping well and warm now that the weather is turning colder.

It's my turn to bring you my DT project for Country View Crafts for November, with the theme 'Winged Things' as chosen by Fiona.

The prize for this month's challenge is an awesome set of 5 AALL and Create Washi Tapes.

You can join in the challenge on Facebook and will need to have joined the group to participate - you can join from anywhere in the world as Country View Crafts do ship overseas. You must use products from brands that Country View Crafts stocks, and please mention them in your post.
You can enter 5 times each month with different projects and one winner will be selected randomly.

Although it's not yet Christmas, many of you will be getting into the Christmas makes, so I decided to make a Christmas Card with a cute Angel from Janet Klein.

My process has incorported a technique and style I learnt at Kate Crane's recent workshop at Country View Crafts - I loved it so much and wanted to use it for my Christmas Cards.

You can find out the technique and details for this from the Paper Artsy People group on FB, under Kate Crane in the ‘Guides’ section, where there are tutorials posted there. You can also find them under ‘featured’ in Kate's group on FB - ‘Create with Kate'.

To start with I created my background, on an A4 white cardstock, using a build up method. I painted some blocks of colour - I chose 3 from the Paperarsty Range; Mermaid, Sherbet and Cheesecake, then I added some torn book text and some torn masking tape. I dry brushed over these with some white acrylic paint to blend these in, and then I stenciled Janet Klein's 'Nature Listens' Stencil, with Paperartsy Aquamarine paint.

I then set about using the alcohol ink technique as shown by Kate Crane, except I didn't use the gelli plate, I dropped the inks direct onto the clear transparency and then laid my stencil on top and waited for it to dry. I think Kate's technique is much better on the gelli plate though.
Once dry, I drew over the stars, on the non-inked side with a white Posca pen.

I stamped my Angel with Memento Ink and coloured her with alcohol ink markers. The Halo I stamped onto the clear transparency with Stazon ink and coloured this with Yellow and Gold Poscas. Onto a little piece of clear transparency I drew an arch design with a black Sharpie pen and just cut this out into a rectangle.
I fussy cut my Angel and the Halo, but for the Halo, I left a thin tab at the bottom so I could fold into a Z shape a little way down, so this would stand out above her.

I stamped a sentiment from Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Mr Frostie CMS499 onto a piece of book paper and part cut, part tore around this.

My main card size is just under 6 x 6 inch and the background design and clear transparency is 4.5 x 4.5 inch. I machined the clear transparency and background design together, and then glued this onto my main card.

Next, to assemble my card. I laid down the 'arches' first. I glued the Halo to the back of my Angel's head, where I wanted it to sit, and then glued her down onto the background.
Then I added the sentiment and some Stickles to finish and here it is....

I hope you like my Angel card and may be inspired to have a go at making this yourself and check out Kate's process too.

Thanks for looking.
Have a great day
