Make Me Smile - May DT Project 2 for CVC

Hello All,

Here I am today with my second Design Team project for May, for Country View Crafts and Challenges on Facebook. The theme this month is 'Make Me Smile'. You can find the challenge on here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/164920247712393 You'll need to join the group to be able to participate. The Challenges are open world wide as Country View Crafts do ship overseas too.

You’ve got until the end of the month to join in and can enter up to 5 times with different makes using products and brands that are stocked by Country View Crafts.
The prize for this month are 3 of the new Versafine Clair ink pads. These are fabulous quality ink pads and a good addition to your supplies, so you would definitely want to win these. One person will be selected as the winner by the random selector generator.

I thought I'd make a card this time, that could be given as a Birthday Card, Friendship Card or just a card to cheer someone up. I like the sentiment "too glam to give a damn" and that's exactly how it should be.

To start, I stamped Miss Dee by Janet Klein from AALL and Create #704 onto card with Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink, and coloured her with Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor pencils - I used colours from Sets 1, 2 and 3. I then fussy cut her out.

On a cotton cheescloth material I sprayed Distress Spray Stain and once dry, I stamped the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Crochet Trims with Ranger Jet Black Archival ink. I cut around the edges to make a 'scarf'.

On a 4.5x 4.5 inch card base, I masked the edge off and blended Seth Apter's Izink Ice through the Tim Holtz Layering Stencil Labels THS178, keeping it quite subtle and then sprinkled over some fine gold glitter while the ink was still wet. I love how translucent this is and how it has a fairly gloss look to it.

I layered the elements onto my decorated backing card, adding the 'scarf' with some Inkssentials Red Tape. I then stamped my chosen sentiment, added some glitter glue to Miss Dee's eyelids and also some Ranger Glossy Accents to her eyes. From my stash I added some tiny diamantes for the necklace, earrings and bag clasp, but you could also highlight these with Glossy Accents instead.

I layered this onto a black border (measuring 5x5 inch) and finally I added this to the main card substrate (measuring almost 6x6 inch - it's an A4 card folded in half lengthways and doesn't quite reach 6 inches when folded so I trim it up to be equal all the way around).

And here she is! The glamorous Miss Dee...

I hope you like this idea and might be inspired to try it out.
And don't forget to enter the Challenge on Facebook - there's still plenty of time.
You could be the lucky winner.

Thanks for taking a look at my blog.
Have a great day
hugs, Carol x

Make Me Smile - DT Project 1 for CVC

Hello all,

It's May and time for my first Design Team make for Country View Crafts and Challenges on Facebook. The theme this month is 'Make Me Smile'.

You can find the challenge on here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/164920247712393

You'll need to join the group to be able to participate. The Challenges are open world wide as Country View Crafts do ship overseas too.
You’ve got until the end of the month to join in and can enter up to 5 times with different makes using products and brands that are stocked by Country View Crafts.
The prize for this month is 3 of the new Versafine Clair ink pads. These are fabulous quality ink pads and a good addition to your supplies so you would definitely want to win these. One person will be selected as the winner by the random selector generator.

Working in my altered book this time, I created a page using the fabulous Miss Dee from AALL and Create by Janet Klein. I also used some of Tim Holtz new Vault dies to create an 'old movie star' look to the page.

I first gessoed my page to give it some grip for the inks and stamps. Then I die cut out the film strip and picture wheel from Tim's Vault Picture Show 666602 die set.

I also stamped Miss Dee with Archival Jet Black Ink twice, on an inked background paper that I found in my stash. You could use Distress Ink Vintage Photo to make this.

OK, so this next bit was a little bit fiddly because I wanted to use Miss Dee in the film strip and picture wheel. I placed the square and rectanglar dies that fit into the 'strip and wheel' over areas of Miss Dee and die cut them out.

I coloured the picture wheel with Tea Dye Distress Ink and Tea Dye Distress Oxide, and then edged it with Scorched Timber Distress Ink. I assembled and added the small squares and rectangles to the film strip and picture wheel. I had to cut and glue on a separate piece of backing for the film strip so that I could slot in the stamped rectangles to it.

From there, I smooshed some Vintage Photo and Scorched Timber Distress Inks to the gessoed page.

I added some stamping from Miss Dee 'Cougar Dee' stamp set, and some AALL and Create washi tape to my background. I edged and coloured the wooden star with Vintage Photo and Scorched Timber Distress Inks and stamped the sentiment on it from the same Miss Dee 'Cougar Dee' stamp set. This set really has such a funny quotes in it.

I assembled all the pieces and laid them out on the page to compose my design using the Miss Dee stamp to see where I was going to place her.

I decided the page needed some animal print, so I found a piece of printed card from my stash.I went round the edges with the Tim Holtz Sanding tool to further age it. I like how it gives that vintage aged look to it.

For the main feature - Miss Dee herself - I stamped her with black Archival Ink onto a separate piece of card, and coloured her with Tim Holtz Distress Watercolour Pencils Set 4, keeping to the 'vintage' colours and then fussy cut her.
To finalise the page I also added some of a builder's joint reinforcing tape, to give it some texture. I finished the star off with some ribbon and then glued all the elements down, and here is my make for my first May 'Make Me Smile' Project.
I hope this has made you smile.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope you'll maybe give this a try yourself, or something similar.
Have a great day,
hugs
Carol xx
